All our lessons and tours are suitable for first-timers and beginners, including children as young as 5 years old. If you're already a downhill skier or have some cross-country experience, we can provide intermediate and advanced lessons and tours.

Bookings are essential. You can book directly online. For private group booking, please visit our private group booking page or call us

On longer tours, you will need to carry a small day pack with lunch/snacks, water and clothing for poor weather.

Equipment hire

Our lessons and tours don't include ski/boot/pole/clothing hire, and there are no XC ski hire facilities on Mount Buffalo

We recommend you hire equipment in Myrtleford, Porepunkah or Bright before you travel up the mountain. See the end of this page for a list of hire shops.

Mount Buffalo Beginner Ski Lessons and Tours

At Mount Buffalo Ski School, we 3 hours of basic cross-country ski lessons and tours for absolute beginners.

Basic Cross-country ski tours for beginners, especially families with younger kids.

Cross-country ski is a fun way to get outside and spend time with your family, enjoy the snow, and exercise in winter. Plus once you've learned the ropes, cross-country skiing is far more affordable than alpine downhill skiing, which usually means you can spend more time on the snow every winter!

Cross Country Ski - Half Day Lesson and Tour (3hrs)

You will learn how to move on skis (parallel stride), how to travel uphill, downhill and how to turn. You'll also learn how to stop (important!) and how to get back up when you fall over – as we all do on occasion! And then practice these skills out on the XC trails. Your ski instructor will provide coaching and tuition throughout the tour, which will help you improve your ski technique.

XC Ski Hire Shops Near Mount Buffalo

Not all ski hire shops have cross-country skis. The hire shops listed below are the only businesses we know of in the region that currently stock XC skis, boots and poles for rental. Remember to allow enough time to have your boots and skis properly fitted before you travel up the mountain for your lesson or tour. As Mount Buffalo snow is often icy, we recommend that you hire steel edge backcountry style skis for your tour as they work much better than plastic edge skis in icy and other conditions when away from groomed trails.
