Looking for a great day out with your families and friends in the snow!? A private group booking is possible with Mount Buffalo Ski School. We can design and provide a tour to suit your specific group's needs.
MBSS offers cross-country ski lessons and tours, snowshoe tours, snow hikes, beginner to advanced backcountry ski tours/tuition, and supervised snow play activities for private groups.
Our ski school staff bring a wide range of ski and snow skills to the lessons and tours and have extensive knowledge of snow safety and the snow environment and its flora and fauna. Whether you want a fun day out with your loved ones, families and friends, or would like a bit of adventure taste of backcountry ski, we are here to support you along the way.

How to Book a Private Tour
- Steps 1: Send an Enquiry: Give us a call or fill out the online form to tell us a little bit about your group and travel plan.
- Step 2: Tailor Your Booking: We will get back to you within 1-3 business days either by email or phone call to discuss your plan and booking.
- Step 3: Confirm The Booking: We will send you a payment request, so you can go ahead to secure your booking.
Buffalo Backcountry Adventures Ski Lessons and Tours
Adventure Cross-country ski tours or snowshoes tour for beginners and families.
Mount Buffalo provides a friendly environment for your cross-country ski adventure. If your group is after a bit of adventure, have a taste of backcountry ski, learn about snow safety and navigation; look no further than our full-day cross-country ski tour, or our full-day snowshoe's tour.
These tours are designed as an introduction to backcountry skiing or snowshoes. Our experienced instructor will be with you and your group the whole time, guide you on off-trail skiing or snowshoe hikes, provide insight into the natural environment, and most importantly keeping you and your group safe.

Cross Country Ski - Full Day Lesson and Tour (5.5hrs)
- Duration: 5.5-6hrs
- Location: Cresta Valley (Meet at Cresta Valley Carpark near the Horn Road Closed sign)
- Lesson/tour times:
- Private group bookings only - Best for: Beginners, families, and Intermediates, recommended minimum age 10
- Price:
One Customer - $660.00 per person
Two Customers - $400.00 pp
Three Customers - $330.00 pp
Four Customers - $300.00 pp
Five Customers - $260.00 pp
Six (or more) Customers - $230.00 pp - Equipment: Your skis, boots, and poles are not included in the price. They must be hired before you arrive (see the end of the page for places to hire XC skis). We have no hire facilities on the mountain. We recommend that you hire steel edge backcountry style skis for a full-day tour as they work much better than plastic edge skis in icy and other conditions when away from groomed trails.
*Children under 16 must be accompanied on the lesson by a participating adult.
* When there is not enough snow to run tours at Mount Buffalo, private tours may be relocated to the Alpine National Park.
Full-Day Snowshoe Tour Cresta Valley (Snowshoes provided)
This is an introductory tour to backcountry snowshoeing. In this tour, you will be walking off-trail, learn about snow safety, snow navigation while enjoying the beauty of a snow-capped Mount Buffalo on a guided full-day snowshoe adventure tour at Cresta Valley. We can tailor the length and difficulty of the tour to the group's ability.

- Location: Cresta Valley
- Tour times: On request, please contact us to discuss. The typical starting time is 10:30 am.
- Best for: Beginners, families, recommended minimum age 7

One Customer - $660.00 per person

Family Snow-Play Tour (Beginners, Snowshoes provided)
A fun and memorable family winter experience!!
This snow play adventure is designed for families with kids as young as 3 years old. Our experienced leaders will guide you through every step of the way and teach you how to snowshoe in the snow, tobogganing, build a snowman, learn a few things about coping with different weather conditions and backcountry safety, and most importantly create a beautiful memory with your little ones.
We will snowshoe to a quiet area near Cresta Valley away from the crowd. You will have all the beautiful snowfield views of Mount Buffalo to yourself. We will explore some of the backcountry areas of Mount Buffalo as well as marked snowshoe trails.
Duration: 3 hrs
Location: Cresta Valley (Meet at Cresta Valley Carpark near the Horn Road Closed sign)
Tour Times:

Best for: Beginners, families, recommended minimum age 3. No previous snow experience is needed. Best for families who are looking for a unique winter experience but don't want to do skiing. All children must be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian.
Price guide: $880 per group, maximum group size is 12.

-Instruction in snow craft and shelter building
-Parks fees and charges
-Communication, first aid kits and navigation equipment
-Snowshoes, poles, snow shovels, toboggans

*Please note before the trip, you will receive a tour information sheet including an itinerary, what to bring for clothing, food, equipment, and other requirements to help you prepare for the snow play adventure.

XC Ski Hire Shops Near Mount Buffalo
Not all ski hire shops have cross-country skis. The hire shops listed below are the only businesses we know of in the region that currently stock XC skis, boots and poles for rental. Remember to allow enough time to have your boots and skis properly fitted before you travel up the mountain for your lesson or tour. As Mount Buffalo snow is often icy, we recommend that you hire steel edge backcountry style skis for your tour as they work much better than plastic edge skis in icy and other conditions when away from groomed trails.
